Time to Prioritize

September 29th, 2011

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

~ Matthew 6:33

The accumulation of things has become the driving force behind the actions of many. If you listen to any given radio station, you will hear rappers and singers bragging about all the things they are able to buy and all the money they have to blow. If you watch any reality show, you will see people frivolously spending money on designer clothes, cars, and jewelry. All the while, on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are homeless, hungry, and destitute that cannot even afford a meal. These are all the signs of people’s priorities being out of line. As believers the trend starts with us. We have to lead by example and follow the teaching that Jesus laid out for us in the verse above. We must first seek God and His righteousness. If we begin to do that and align our priorities according to His will, then God surely supply all our other needs according to His riches in glory.

Order My Steps

September 19th, 2011

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way

~ Psalms 37:23

What is my purpose? Why is God allowing me to go through this for so long, even though I am faithful? Those are questions many people struggle with. We all have a sense that there is something more for us out there, and we commonly struggle with getting from the point we currently are to where we should be. Nevertheless be encouraged that even in those situations God has a plan for you and it will come to pass. You just have to trust in him and not lean on you own understanding. His words will be a light for your path and a light for your feet. You steps are ordered by Him and his purpose for your life is intentional and meant to be a blessing for you!

Just Ask

September 15th, 2011

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father

-John 14:13

Imagine a small boy reaching for something that he really needs, but it sits in a place that is too high for him to reach. The child, out of frustration plop’s down on the floor, and begins to pout. After a few minutes or so, his mother comes along and sees the child sitting there, arms folded and a scowl plastered on his face. “What’s wrong with you boy?” the mother asks. Rather than speaking, the child points to an object he needs. His mother shakes her head, and says, “All you had to do was call my name, ask me, and I would have given it to you, it is just that simple son.”

This scenario represents many Christians in all different walks of life. We often assume the role of this small boy, because we get frustrated with the trials and tribulations that we experience in life. When we are frustrated, we just stop talking and reaching for the things we need. We become totally disgusted and just decide to sit there in our situation. However, just as the Mom told her son, Jesus tells us in this verse that our silence is to our detriment. Jesus tells us that there is power in what we say; as a matter of fact this is a simple principle to get us what we need. People here me well, all we have to do is ask-we have not because we ask not. This is why the enemy is adept at getting us to be silent when we are going through. If we can’t speak it, then our needs will go unmet.
